Letters to Glenn Beck 1 - Bob Barr Has 1 More Vote (08-28-2008)
In August I started listening to Glenn Beck's radio program religiously. I also started watching his nightly TV show as often as I could. I found him to be refreshing and new. Someone who sees beyond the Republican-Democrat boundary. So I started to email him. Unfortunately, I never got a response. However, the emails, in my view, are quite good at showing my beliefs and the manner in which I look at the world. So I decided to share them here.
Sadly, as the Presidential race got close to it's end, Glenn showed his utter and total dislike of socialism. Anyone will agree that socialism has failed everywhere it has been implemented. But let's see where those places are: the USSR (Stalin), Venezuela (Chavez), and France. Wow, talking about beakons of hope and prosperity. It's like saying that a city has no good places to eat, and using only 1-star restaurants as your reference.
Anyway, for better and definitely for worse, here are my emails to Glenn. I can say without a doubt that I didn't change his thinking at all towards socialism.
Dear Mr Beck,
I apologize but I'm a socialist. I tried to deny it. Alas I cannot. I just do not believe Capitalism can work because of inherent human greed and the resulting hoarding of a limited commodity (money!!).
Even as a socialist, I canNOT vote for Obama. It's not the radical associations or arrogance he has that bother me. It's the fact that I have no idea who and what this guy truly is that is utterly scary!
I also do not believe in McCain. At least with Obama, you can guess who is pulling his strings behind the scenes. I have no clue who is pulling McCain's and that scares me just as much (GWB burning me twice on this has made me very wary).
What I'm trying to get to is that I Thoroughly Thank You for having a frank, honest, in-depth discussion with Bob Barr. I have not heard him interviewed on any other major network (although I think Hannity had him on for a segment a few months ago during which Bob was chastised for "potentially taking away votes from McCain").
Anyway, Bob Barr might only get 3 votes on election day, but one of them will be mine.
Thank you for not just being anti-Democrat and for actually showcasing alternate options in this years Presidential race.
