Letters to Glenn Beck 2 - Boeing union workers (09-04-2008)
Glen,
I'm sorry to interrupt your Sarah Palin love affair (which was hilarious to listen to during your radio show today), but there is a non-election issue that really needs to be discussed.
The Machinists Union at Boeing voted to strike because the contract offer was deemed unacceptable. According to the article I read, the average worker's salary is $55,000 and the offer includes "$34,000 in average pay and benefit gains per employee".
Shouldn't these workers simply be happy that They Have Jobs in these uncertain economic times when companies left and right are laying off thousands of workers?? These union workers act as if they are working 20 hour days for $3.50 an hour when in reality they actually make quite a good wage as compared to many other industries. Indeed, they aren't making Bill Gates money. But if $55k a year isn't enough, well you really need to re-examine your budget and life style.
I am a single dad living off of $27k a year (which is too much money to get any sort of state assistance in Missouri) and will be lucky to get a 5% raise in pay at the end of this year. It makes me truly sick to see how greedy unions are and how unappreciative their members are. Again, these people should feel lucky that they even have jobs! And damn good ones at that!! To go on strike because $55k a year and $34k in gains isn't enough shows how utterly out of touch people are with their own lives.
To be mean: these people [read: morons] don't deserve the jobs they have.
To be honest: this is why unions are just not needed anymore.
Thank you for taking the time to read my rant.
