Letters to Glenn Beck 8 - socialism (11-19-2008)

This is my last email to Glenn. And I plan on it staying that way. Anyone who doesn't want to hear a different view is a waste of my time. I know socialism isn't the most popular of things. But anytime you have to make a choice between food and gas for the car...or food and your mortgage payment in the most prosperous nation on the planet..well there is simply something fundamentally wrong.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll notice that my tone is much darker and direct, as compared to the previous emails. This is my signing off statement, and I wanted to make it as powerful as possible. Oh well, people like Glenn Beck are great, inspiring, even hillarious. But at their core, they are capitalists and conservatives. And they don't give a flying fuck if you are wallowing in the mire just as long as they can live the high-life.

hi Glenn,

I know you can't stand socialism. And yes I know it has never succeeded where it has been implemented. To that I say, "that is because it has not been implemented correctly". But hey, what do I know.

Well Glenn this is what I know...

I make less than my dad did 3 DECADES ago.

I make less than my mom did 2 DECADES ago.

Have we ever had a generation that has made less money than the previous one? Since the industrial revolution, I'm not sure we have. My dad made 3 times what my grandfather did. My mom made probably 8 times what my grandmother did. My grandparents made numerous times more than their parents. And now decades later, I'm working my ass off to make less?? Yeah, capitalism is great Glenn. Nothing like living in a system that rewards greed.

And contrary to what you believe, greed is not punished by the system. Rather greed happily causes a vast majority of the money in that system to accumulate and stay at the top. Afterall Glenn, the rich STAY rich by not spending their money. But hey, let's ignore that little inconvenient fact ok? Let's also ignore that poor slobs like me put 95-100% of their yearly salary back into the economy while the rich put, what, 25-50% of their salary back into the very economy that has made them wealthy? Why does that matter you ask? Well if money stays in Bill Gate's pocket...It Can't Reach Mine! it's called hording of a limited commodity. Yeah, that doesn't help the Capitalism Is Great argument. So indeed let's ignore it out right.

You know what? I want to ignore more stuff like that! So let's ignore this: if everyone who is not currently "living the American Dream" decided tomorrow that they wanted a piece of that pie... well shoot man, there just aren't 100 million upper brass jobs available for them to fill!

But we are gonna ignore that little annoyance. So tomorrow, everyone will be Living The Dream. Yay!!!

Oh wait, we have another problem that needs to be ignored: if everyone is upper management...um...Who Is Doing The Work? Oh yeah, that's right...NO ONE! Joe the Plumber owns the company now and will be damned before he picks up another wrench. I'm a world-famous inventor, so now my company's expense reports won't get audited. Leasing agents? No more because they are now office managers. Housekeepers? Yeah like an Executive VP is going to clean a toilet! In the end, No One is left To Do The Work!

Hmm...it's almost as if I'm trying to say that our economic system REQUIRES people to be in the trenches. Wow...now ain't that a quaint concept. So if people MUST be in the cubes, in the offices, in the trenches if you will, doing the work, why aren't they treated as being essential? Oh yeah, that's right...because of profit margins and salaries/bonuses paid to the bloated upper management. Thank You Capitalism!

Know what else is great about capitalism Glenn that we can ignore? It is great when workers get laid off so that the company can pad it's profit margin. Boy, I tell ya, thank goodness for all of those share holders because, man, do they ever help make a company successful. Oh wait, that's right...share holders don't do jack to make a company successful. The WORKERS do! I'm sure you smile that great big gleeful smile of yours every time you hear of hard-working employees getting canned by the thousands in the name of sustaining profits.

Talking about upper brass...

OwnerS
CEO
COO
CFO
Executive PresidentS
Senior PresidentS
PresidentS
Executive Vice PresidentS
Senior Vice PresidentS
Vice PresidentS
Regional ManagerS
Area ManagerS
District ManagerS
Building ManagerS
Department ManagerS
Assistant Department ManagerS
SupervisorS
Assistant SupervisorS
have I left out anyone?
Oh yeah...
A Director of pretty much anything and everything you can be a Director of.
And last but not least...the ever infamous, Board of DirectorS

Answer me this Mr Capitalism Is Great, how many people are needed to make a decision?? I mean, come on!

And really, how much does the Senior...not the Executive, not the plain jane, but the Senior Vice President of Marketing do to make a company successful? Probably just a little bit less than the Executive Vice President of Marketing, and just a bit more than the plain jane VP of Marketing. But overall, not much. And yet that Senior VP of Marketing will be paid 6 figures. And that Senior VP of Marketing will be kept on while dozens of marketing department workers get canned. I'm sure you just get all warm and gooey inside thinking of all those poor slobs getting fired so that one Senior VP of Marketing can be retained. Afterall, it's not as if those poor marketing department slobs do anything to make the company successful...other than bust their asses and actually Do The Work!!

I tell ya Glenn, I remember when successful (read: profitable) companies rewarded their workers with higher salaries and better benefits. Now profitable companies reward their employees with pink slips so that the actual spoils can go to share holders and upper brass.

But hey, I'm sorry Glenn. I don't want to punish the success of that Senior VP of Marketing. Afterall, I'm sure when all the workers have been fired, that Senior VP will do a great job keeping the marketing department afloat. ha!

One last thought if you are still reading these evil, heathen socialistic words:

What would you rather have... a thousand billionaires, or a million millionaires? Uh oh, that's a slippery question. Gotta try to ignore it!

Opps...too late! You have to work extra hard to ignore the concept of... while Capitalists like you are waiting for Bill Gates to walk through the door of a restaurant, socialism would allow 50,000 people to walk through that door because they could afford to do so! Oh I'm sorry, that's "redistribution of wealth"...and boy that doesn't help anyone I'm sure. This especially wouldn't help the owner of that restaurant because they who would see increased business and would then be able to turn those increased earnings into higher wages for the restaurant employees...who would then be able to spend more at other stores...stores who would then be able to increase the wages of their employees due to those higher earnings...who would be able to spend more at even more stores............

I'm sorry, how despicable of me to even think along those lines. Bad socialist! I'm a bad Bad BAD socialist!!!!!!

Anyway, I'm sure you're still on a high from hearing about Citigroup canning over 50,000 people. So I don't want to be a downer and make you wonder about how many...er few...er any of those 50,000 are upper brass. Have a great one buddy. Perhaps if I'm lucky I won't be fired before the end of the year so that my company can pad it's profit margin for it's stock holders and give Christmas...er I'm sorry...Holiday bonuses to the bloated upper brass. But then again, I should feel lucky if I am canned because I'd be helping to support the greatness of Capitalism!
