Boeing Machinists Union (09-06-2008)
Let me start with a portion of an AP article...
"U.S. companies have cut more than 550,000 jobs so far in 2008..."
Now let me go to a few portions of another AP article...
"Boeing Co. machinists walked out on strike Saturday after contract talks arbitrated by a federal mediator failed to produce an agreement."
"'We're not greedy, we just want a piece of the pie,' said Scott Daniels as he helped make picket signs late Friday. 'They offer us bonuses. We don't want bonuses.' Machinists want an improved 401k and improved vacation, he said."
"Boeing's 'best and final' three-year contract offer included bonuses totaling at least $5,000 and averaging $6,400, raises averaging 11 percent, pension increases and a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment -- $34,000 in average pay and benefit gains per employee, according to the company."
"The average Boeing machinist earns $27 an hour, or about $56,000 a year, before overtime and incentives."
So let me see here, 550,000 people have been laid off just this year alone. And yet here's these fucking Boeing machinists who HAVE jobs...GOOD paying jobs at that...and they aren't satisfied?!? How about just appreciate the freaking fact that you Have A Job!!! How about appreciate that you make twice what most others make!! How about appreciate the $34,000 in gains per employee you were just offered!
Naw...Boeing posted a decent profit...so of course the employees deserve more. I acknowledge that without the hard work and dedication of the workers, Boeing would not have posted their nice profit (I think it was in the $4 billion range). But in these unstable economic times, that profit is used as a hedge against possible future downturns. Shit man, it's not like Boeing is making billion dollar profits by paying their workers $8 an hour with no benefits. Fucking morons.
This is why unions are out-dated and no longer needed. I don't care how much you claim that you aren't greedy. Your "piece of the pie" statement shows your greed! People who aren't greedy are satisfied with their good wages and very fair pay gains. And how about this, instead of increased 401k accounts, take your bonus and salary increase and put them into a high-yield savings account! Oh wait, that would mean these fuck heads are responsible for themselves...and God Forbid that should ever happen. I mean, who would they have to blame in the end if they took on their own responsibilities?!?!?
None...absolutely none of these mother fuckers deserve their well paying jobs with great benefits. I hope Boeing lays them all off. Let's see how happy you fucks are flipping burgers or cleaning toilets for $7.50 an hour.
